broken femur and a
punctured cornea. He
was in terrible shape.
I possess over 25 years of experience rescuing, re-
homing and training animals, primarily dogs. In the
1990’s, I started one of the first pet therapy programs
in Onondaga County called Basically Puppies
Community Services, Inc. at one time boasting over 70
volunteers and their pets. I was employed by OCC
Excell under Pat Pirro for a number of years to teach dog
obedience to owners and their dogs. I wrote a column
called “Me and My Pet” which ran every Friday in the
Post Standard for a year until I resigned to continue
with my private obedience training business which was
requiring more and more of my time. Finally, after years
of caring for animals, I decided to go back to school to
get my RN so that I could incorporate my care of
animals with my concern for people.
Staying current with techniques, and staying in touch
with other professionals in the field is important, so I
maintain memberships to relevant organizations, and
take advantage of educational resources aimed at
training professionals.
I am a member of APDT [Association
of Pet Dog Trainers], which is an
excellent resource for trainers to stay
fresh with techniques, and network
with other professionals.
